How we work

Editorial policy

How BabyNapCalc content is created, checked, and kept current — and the lines we won't cross when it comes to your child's health.

What our content is based on

Every calculator and guide on BabyNapCalc starts from widely published pediatric sleep guidance — not forums, not trends, not hunches. Our two main foundations are the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) sleep-duration recommendations, which set out how many hours children need at each age, and the National Sleep Foundation's recommended sleep ranges for babies and children.

We combine those recommendations with standard sleep-cycle math: the well-established research finding that sleep moves in cycles of roughly 90 minutes, which is why our tools aim for cycle-aligned bedtimes and wake times rather than arbitrary ones.

We don't invent our own sleep science. When guidance differs between sources, we say so and show the range — because an honest range helps parents more than a falsely precise single number.

How we review and update

Each tool is checked when it's built: the formulas, the age ranges, and the assumptions behind every result. Then we review our content periodically and update pages whenever published guidance changes or new research becomes widely accepted.

We also keep our guides in plain language. Sleep science can be intimidating at 2 a.m., so we write for tired parents — short sentences, clear next steps, and no jargon without an explanation.

If we ever get something wrong, we'd rather hear about it than pretend otherwise. Correction reports get priority: send us the page URL and what's wrong via our contact page, and we'll verify it against published guidance and fix the page.

A clear boundary: BabyNapCalc provides general planning estimates, never medical advice. Our content can't diagnose sleep disorders or replace your pediatrician. If your child snores loudly, struggles to breathe during sleep, seems excessively sleepy during the day, or has persistent sleep difficulties, please consult a healthcare professional.

Editorial questions

Is BabyNapCalc's content medical advice?

No. Everything on BabyNapCalc, including calculator results and guides, is a general planning estimate. For medical concerns about your child's sleep or health, consult your pediatrician.

Where does BabyNapCalc's guidance come from?

We build from widely published pediatric sleep guidance, including the American Academy of Pediatrics sleep-duration recommendations and the National Sleep Foundation, plus standard sleep-cycle research such as roughly 90-minute cycles.

How often is BabyNapCalc content reviewed?

We review our calculators and guides periodically and update them whenever published guidance changes or a reader reports a verified error. Correction reports take priority.

How do I report an error on BabyNapCalc?

Use our contact page with the page URL and a short description of the issue. We verify reported errors against published guidance and update the page promptly.

Why do your calculators show ranges instead of exact times?

Every child is different, and sleep guidance itself is published as ranges. Showing ranges is more honest than pretending a single exact time works for every baby.
